Atopia

Atopia is scheduled for release on August 7, 2026. The film takes its title and conceptual framework from the state of 'atopia' described in Plato's Symposium — a condition attributed to Socrates involving an aesthetic experience of stepping outside oneself. The work renders this idea cinematically by pairing a live musical improvisation by cellist Giovanni Sollima with abstract visuals produced through direct physical manipulation of 35mm film stock, including acid etching, applied colour, scratches, and abrasions. The result is described as a synaesthetic perception, in which the relationship between a musician and his instrument is transposed onto the film medium itself.
