A group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys” set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.
When *The Boys* premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 25, 2019, it will arrive as one of the more self-consciously confrontational entries in what has become, by the close of the 2010s, a genuinely crowded field of prestige superhero television. Produced by Amazon Studios in partnership with Original Film and Sony Pictures Television, the series is an American production filmed in English and built around a premise that runs deliberately against the grain of the genre it inhabits: a ragged group of vigilantes, working with improvised means and a stated willingness to fight without rules, attempts to expose and dismantle a cadre of superheroes who are, by the show's accounting, corrupt.
