The Match

The Match, known in Spanish as El Partido, is scheduled for release on May 21, 2026. The film reconstructs the quarter-final between Argentina and England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, a match widely remembered for Diego Maradona's controversial 'Hand of God' goal as well as his second goal in the same game, often cited as one of the greatest in the sport's history.

Beyond the events on the pitch, the film examines the broader context surrounding the fixture. The two nations had fought the deadly Falklands War just four years earlier in 1982, and the match carried significant political and cultural weight on both sides. The film positions that geopolitical tension as a central dimension of its reconstruction of the encounter.
