Monsters of God

Monsters of God premieres on August 6, 2026, on HBO. Produced by HBO Documentary Films, the five-episode series is directed by Eric Goode, whose previous documentary work has focused on animal subcultures and the people who inhabit them.

The series traces the origins of the exotic reptile trade in the United States, beginning with Hank Molt and Tommy Crutchfield, who supplied some of the world's rarest reptiles to major American zoos. When a large-scale smuggling operation unravels and Molt is imprisoned, Crutchfield consolidates control over the market. The series then follows the fallout when Molt is released and his rivalry with Crutchfield culminates in an act of retaliation that reshapes the industry.

The series will be available on HBO and is expected to stream on Max in the United States.
