Insects – Hidden Heroes, originally titled Insekten - Helden im Verborgenen, is a German-language documentary film scheduled for release on 16 July 2026. The film traces the evolutionary history of insects across 400 million years, examining how this class of animals — the most numerous on Earth — contributed to the formation of ecosystems as they exist today. Narrated by German screen actress Katharina Thalbach, the film moves between geological deep time and the present, using close-range visuals to bring the insect world into focus. At its center is a question about the relationship between human civilization and the natural environment.
