First Night Nerves

First Night Nerves, known in Chinese as 八個女人一台戲, is scheduled for release on July 25, 2026. The film centers on Yuan Xiuling, a former star attempting a return to the stage one year after her husband's death, and He Yuwen, a rising actress marking her theatrical debut. Both women are cast in Two Sisters, a play written and directed by transwoman An Ouyang, and the production is set to open at Hong Kong's City Hall Theater. As rehearsals proceed over the final seven days before opening night, the professional rivalry between Xiuling and Yuwen surfaces alongside accumulated personal resentments, generating as much drama offstage as on.
