About this release
The World Is Dancing is a Japanese-language television drama set to premiere on July 2, 2026. The series is based on the historical figure Zeami, widely regarded as the artist who codified and elevated Noh theater into the form recognized today.
The story begins in 1374, during the prolonged conflict between the Northern and Southern Imperial Courts. A boy named Oniyasha is born into a family of sarugaku performers — the itinerant theater tradition from which Noh developed. He moves through his early life in a state of quiet unease, preoccupied with a question he cannot resolve: why do people dance? A single witnessed performance shifts the course of his life and sets the narrative in motion.
The series carries the alternate title ワールド イズ ダンシング in its original Japanese.
