Crises on the Comeback Trail: Hokkaido's Endangered Birds

Crises on the Comeback Trail: Hokkaido's Endangered Birds is a documentary that released on April 22, 2025. The film is set in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island, a region characterized by habitat that supports a range of large wild bird species.

While some endangered species have seen population gains through conservation programs developed over the past several decades, those gains are now under pressure from multiple sources. The documentary identifies diseases and collisions with vehicles, power lines, and wind turbines as among the primary threats. The film follows veterinarians and researchers as they work on initiatives designed to sustain and increase bird populations in the region.
