Bakom Svärtan

Bakom Svärtan is a documentary produced by SVT, scheduled for release on 31 July 2026. The film takes viewers behind the scenes of Svärtan, a TV series following a group of young people who encounter an injured mermaid on an island in the Swedish archipelago. That series is based on Sommaren 1985, a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, whose work is known for combining Swedish realism with supernatural elements. A central focus of the documentary is the practical effort involved in designing and constructing the mermaid character to achieve an authentic appearance on screen.
