Where Shadows Are Born

Where Shadows Are Born, known in Spanish as Donde nacen las sombras, is a documentary set for release on August 8, 2026. The film follows Violeta, its director and a photographer, in the aftermath of a difficult childbirth and a personal separation. Confronting a rupture in her experience of motherhood, she looks toward her own mother as a way of tracing how particular ways of being a woman and a mother were passed down to her. Her encounters with other forms of motherhood — including that of María, a sculptor and trans mother — open new perspectives on her own situation. The film is presented in Spanish.
