The Promised Land

The Promised Land (Ветена земја) is a Macedonian-language documentary scheduled for release on May 7, 2025. The film centers on Skopje in March 1943, tracing how Albanians from Macedonia facilitated the escape of a large number of Jews and the role Albanian families played in sheltering them. Because Albania was under Italian rather than German Nazi occupation at the time, the treatment of Jewish refugees there was comparatively less severe than in territories under direct German control. The film draws attention to a lesser-documented chapter of wartime rescue in the western Balkans.
