Molière, Cyrano and the Young King

"Molière, Cyrano and the Young King" — released in France as "Les caprices de l'enfant Roi" — opens in cinemas on June 24, 2026. The film is set during the Fronde, the mid-17th-century rebellion that forced the young Louis XIV to flee Paris, and weaves together three historical figures in a fictional scenario.

The plot turns on a royal substitution: with the real Louis XIV too dangerous to keep at court, a look-alike is installed in his place while the genuine king is placed under the protection of Cyrano de Bergerac. Cyrano conceals the boy within a traveling theater troupe run by Madeleine Béjart, whose company has just taken on a new member — a young actor named Molière, who has no idea his newest colleague is the future king of France.

As Cyrano attempts to manage an arrogant and inexperienced Louis, he begins drafting a play for the troupe. Molière, already brimming with comic instincts, reshapes the work and in doing so begins to define his own voice as a playwright. Meanwhile Louis, removed from the formality of court, encounters theater, friendship, and a world outside the palace for the first time. Back in Paris, however, political intrigue threatens to expose the deception before Louis can reclaim his identity and throne.
