Lonely Island

Lonely Island, also known by its original title 首镜, is a Chinese-language drama film set for release on July 19, 2026. The story centers on three women — Zheng Yuan, Fang Chi, and Zhao Xin — who have known each other for years and set out to make a film together. Their initial enthusiasm gives way to mounting difficulties when, on the fourth day of production, problems begin to compound. Zheng Yuan resists compromising the personal expressions she values most; Fang Chi finds that her sensitivity may conflict with the demands of her role as an actress; and Zhao Xin, a first-time producer, attempts to hold the project together while preserving their shared ideals. The pressures of filmmaking are compounded when the three return home to find that their two kittens have disappeared. The film examines the tensions between creative integrity and practical constraint, set against the backdrop of a low-budget independent production.
