Far from Maine

Far from Maine is scheduled for release on June 14, 2026. The film is a documentary in which Israeli queer filmmaker Roy Cohen addresses his late Palestinian friend Aseel Aslih, who was killed by Israeli police during their youth, through a form structured as a cinematic letter. Cohen and Aslih had both been involved in peace activism. Drawing on letters Aslih wrote as a teenager, Cohen constructs a dialogue across time — examining memory, friendship, and the conditions of a society he describes as increasingly genocidal. The film moves between Cohen's personal account of navigating contemporary Israeli society and his engagement with Aslih's written words as a moral and emotional reference point.
