Downtown

Downtown is a Dutch-language drama film scheduled for release on June 21, 2026. The story spans two distinct periods: Amsterdam's nightlife scene in 1988, where three young gay men — Ronnie, Lennart, and Bas — share a world of friendship, sex, and drugs, and the year 2021, when the COVID lockdown provides an unexpected backdrop for reunion. The AIDS epidemic serves as the central rupture in the narrative. When Bas disappears after becoming infected in 1988, the three men lose one another entirely. Thirty-two years later, Ronnie spots Bas on the subway and an unplanned evening brings all three together, each carrying the weight of what the intervening decades have cost them. The film examines how the epidemic reshaped the lives of those who survived it and those who scattered in its wake.
