A Bitter Struggle

A Bitter Struggle is a documentary releasing on May 6, 2025. Commissioned by the Centre for Labour Research and Action (CLRA) with support from RLS South Asia, the film examines the conditions that mobilized sugarcane harvesting workers in South Gujarat to collectively demand wages and entitlements from sugar cooperative factories. The documentary covers how migrant workers and contractors coordinated their efforts, and chronicles a concrete outcome: sugar cooperative factories raising wages in response to worker pressure — a partial but documented victory within the broader labour rights struggle.
