About this release
On the Trail of the Beast (По следу зверя) premiered on May 8, 2025. The series is set during the Great Patriotic War and centers on two Soviet intelligence officers, Sergei Skorin and Andrei Losev, who are tasked with tracking down a well-trained sabotage group carrying out large-scale operations in the Red Army's rear ahead of the Battle of Kursk. The historical backdrop of one of the largest tank battles of World War II provides the operational stakes for the investigation.
The series layers a personal conflict onto the wartime thriller premise: Andrei and Sergei are brothers estranged by long-standing tensions. Andrei suspects that Sergei has been turned by the enemy, introducing a question of loyalty that runs alongside the broader manhunt. The show spans the genres of war drama and mystery, conducted entirely in Russian.
