The Father

The Father (Отец) is a Russian-language war film set for release on May 7, 2026. The story centers on Gavriil Sobinov, a Siberian hunter who volunteers for the front after his son Semyon, a young lieutenant, is reported missing. Rather than reaching the front lines immediately, Gavriil is assigned to a supply platoon, where he distinguishes himself in his first combat engagement. He subsequently trains at a sniper school before being deployed to the front and given command of a sniper group, all while continuing his search for Semyon. Running parallel to Gavriil's story is that of Werner, a German sniper who is himself serving alongside his own son, Dietrich. The film builds toward a confrontation between the two sniper fathers as the circumstances of war draw them closer together.
