City Lights

City Lights is a forthcoming book by Gioia Woods, set for publication in 2026. Subtitled Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the Biography of a Bookstore, the work examines the history of City Lights Booksellers & Publishers in San Francisco alongside the life of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the poet and publisher who co-founded the store in 1953. City Lights became a landmark of American literary culture, particularly through its association with the Beat Generation, and Ferlinghetti remained a central figure in independent publishing and poetry until his death in 2021.
